Getting Home Safe

You weren’t planning on drinking tonight, or perhaps you intended to enjoy yourself but the friend who was supposed to drive you home left without you. You have your car with you, but don’t want to be the one to drive it. What are your options?

Taxi:

The first thing most people think of is to hail a cab or look one up and call them, especially if they are downtown. This will get you home safe, with minimal hassle…particularly if the cab is already there. If not, and you call for one, they are not known for reliability or punctuality.

You will also have to pay the same amount again the following day to return to your car. Leaving your car overnight may be a safe option if you are at a friend’s house, but put you at risk of tickets or towing in some other areas.

Stay and Sleep:

Most friends will not mind it if you spend the night on their couch after a party; all one has to do is ask. Sleeping in your car after a pub crawl is an option some people attempt, but are often thwarted by noise, police, and other partygoers.

Ride with a Friend:

If a sober friend is driving home and you can ride with them, this can be an easy and inexpensive choice. Best to offer to pay for part of the gas; your friend will be more likely to give you a ride in the future.

You will still have to get another ride the following day just to get back to your car, and possibly pay for a taxi then.

Have a Sober Driver Take You Home:

If you have a friend who is willing to get in your car, drive you home with you in it, and then stay with you or find their own transportation home, you have won the lottery for the night! No harm in treating them to lunch later on in the week as a thank-you.

If no one is sober and available, call us. A designated driving service generally costs more than a cab one-way, but is cheaper than a cab both ways, and you have the advantage of not having to worry about arranging a ride back to your car. Some similar services might only operate around the holidays, but we are available year round.

All four options are cheaper than a DUI. Choose wisely!
